The exhibition is dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the beginning of the First World War. This is the first exhibition in the branch of the State Historical museum in Tula, which involves two museums — the Tsarskoye Selo State Museum and the State Historical museum. The exhibition aims to draw attention to the preservation of the historical memory of the military conflict, which for Russia has long been a “Forgotten War”.

The collections of the Martial Chamber, which is part of the Tsarskoye Selo State Museum, and the State Historical Museum on the First World War have been collected for many years. In the Martial Chamber, which was laid in May 1913, after the outbreak of hostilities, it was decided to create a museum of the current war with a gallery of portraits of St. George’s cavaliers and trophies.

In August 1914, the Department of the Current War was established in the State Historical museum, whose staff repeatedly went to the front. Subsequently, the museum funds were supplemented with materials from the Trophy Commission, the Military Historical Museum, the Artillery Historical Museum, individual objects and complexes transferred from the families of war participants.

The Martial Chamber and the State Historical museum carefully preserved their collections even when they preferred not to remember the First World War for political reasons.

The Belolipetsky mansion, which houses the branch of the State Historical museum in Tula, had an infirmary for wounded soldiers during the First World War. It is at this exhibition site that the project dedicated to the “Forgotten War” was implemented.

Visitors will see weapons, documents, photographs, awards, posters, portraits of St. George’s cavaliers, elements of the First World War uniforms from the collection of the Martial Chamber and the collection of the State Historical museum. The State Archive of the Tula region will present at the exhibition a series of photographs of infirmary No. 6, located in Tula, house No. 10 on Pyatnitskaya Street, the current Metallistov. The exhibition will also feature a military chronicle provided by the Tsarskoye Selo State Museum.
