The exhibition «Donbas» is an immersion into the history of an original region that has preserved a centuries-old close connection with Russia. Unique objects and documents from the collections of the Museum of Contemporary History of Russia, the State Historical Museum and the State Archive of the Tula Region, as well as a documentary chronicle tell about the history of Donbas.

Visitors will learn about the exploration and then rapid development of the industrial Donetsk basin, about the struggle of the Donetsk-Krivoy Rog Soviet Republic with Ukrainian nationalists and foreign interventionists during the Civil War, about the courage of Soviet soldiers who liberated Donbas during the Great Patriotic War. The exhibition also gives an idea of the modern life of the region: the tragedy of the civil war in Ukraine, the entry of the Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics into Russia, the special military operation and its heroes.

The exposition, which tells about the history of Donbass, contains personal belongings, paintings and posters, documents, drawings, maps, views of the village of Yuzovka (Donetsk) of the early twentieth century. Among the exhibits are a portrait of the organizer of Soviet power in Donbass, Kliment Voroshilov, a work suitcase of miner Alexei Stakhanov, a jumpsuit of the organizer and foreman of the first women’s tractor brigade in the USSR, Praskovya Angelina, a photo of the initiator of the Stakhanov movement among metallurgists Makar Mazai, miners’ tools and samples of mining and gold—bearing rocks, as well as one of the first editions of Alexander Fadeev’s novel «The Young Guard».

As members of the Association of Historical and Military History Museums, the State Historical Museum and the Museum of Contemporary History of Russia act as flagship institutions in the field of acquisition and presentations on this topic. A unique component of the exhibition will be regional materials about the connection of the Tula region with Donbas in the past and present, about special military operation heroes.

You can get acquainted with the exposition until November 18, 2024.
